  Meet Karen and Rob ..

KAREN says "I have 27 years experience as an A.D.I. and have run my own driving school in Cornwall for the last 20 years. I also currently work with the Devon and Cornwall Police with their Retraining programme for drivers that have offended and give Speed Awareness classes.

I would rather be riding my bike then driving so when my children became old enough  to ride with me I became a Cyclewise Instructor. As this has moved on, I have just qualified as a National Standards Cycling Instructor working with my colleague from a neighbouring village and together we are applying to have our scheme accredited under Bikeability.

Meanwhile we are working directly with the Partnership Development Manager from the Mid Cornwall School Sports Partnership, Mo Thayre who sadly, is retiring at the end of this academic year after 34 years at Poltair School both teaching and as a PDM.

I have experience at tutoring people of all ages and abilities, including those that are nervous and have disabilities.  I love what I do and would like everyone to enjoy the right to travel freely.  I trained with Cycle Experience and one of the Instructor Trainers was someone whose children both learned to drive with me, her eldest passing first time and her youngest currently about to do his theory test."

ROB lives a couple of miles down the road in the next village but remembers St Mewan Primary School well, having attended it as a child.  He is now a mature student hoping to go into his third year having done his FdSc Personal Trainer degree, to upgrade it to a BSc (Hons).  A few years ago, another student on the same course, in his early 20s learned to ride a bike as part of the course having never even sat on one previously.

Should history now repeat itself, there is now help to hand at college.  Rob is a keen cyclist and athlete himself and has been for many years and can be contacted via gettheredreckly@hotmail.co.uk when he is not running a cross country training session for pupils at Probus CP.  He's also an experienced marathon runner and heavily involved with Truro Running Club where he is also assistant coach to help to mentor new members, who are very often starting to run from scratch.  Seen here, he and Karen were in the throes of doing the technical part of their Instructor Training.  His website is http://www.1etal.org.uk
